ABOUT NON SURGICAL GASTRIC BALLOON :
According to the news NHS found the treatment of weight loss by GASTRIC BALLOON procedure. An X-ray confirms the precise placement of the gastric balloon in the stomach, followed by the infusion of 550ml of water through the tube. Subsequent X-ray validation ensures the balloon’s fullness and proper positioning in the stomach before removing the tube. This non-surgical, non-endoscopic, and anesthesia-free treatment spans four months, concluding with a valve opening to allow the balloon to naturally pass through the body.
THE RESULTS OF NON SURGICAL GASTRIC BALOONTREATMENT :
In a groundbreaking move, Musgrove Park Hospital, a part of Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, administered this innovative treatment to two patients in November. Another three patients are slated for the procedure in February within the same trust. Manufactured by Allurion, the device is poised for broader adoption within the NHS, with ongoing discussions to extend the treatment to other trusts.
Swallowable gastric balloons emerge as a promising solution for obesity, with studies suggesting potential weight loss of up to one-third of excess body weight. Prof Richard Welbourn, a consultant bariatric surgeon at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, expressed satisfaction in offering this novel NHS treatment, emphasizing its significant weight loss benefits within a comprehensive program that includes dietary support and care.
